Tests in Development
TheraGenetics first suite of TheraTests relates to antipsychotic response prediction.
Antipsychotics are drugs used to treat the psychoses; a group of severe mental disorders that includes schizophrenia.
Predicting response to a certain antipsychotic is not possible simply by looking at the illness or personal characteristics of the patient. Drug selection, is therefore typically guided by local treatment guidelines (e.g. cheapest drug used as first line), individual clinician preferences, or the drug side effect profile.
TheraTests allow treatment individualization based on an individuals unique genetic make up. Each test reports the likelihood of a patient responding to the given drug or of experiencing a given side effect. This allows patients to receive the drug most likely to improve symptoms, with the minimum of side effects, at the earliest opportunity. This has enormous positive impact to the individual, the care givers and family, and society as a whole.
TheraTest panels combine information relating to a number of different antipsychotics allowing the drugs to be ranked in order of likelihood of response for each given patient; matching the medication to the person.
